Make it last

Six ways to make your data go further

Save video for Wi-Fi

Stream and make video calls at your hotel or café. It's the biggest saving by far.

Download maps before you go

Save offline maps of the cities you're visiting. Navigation then works with almost no data.

Download shows and playlists

Save series, films and music to your phone before the flight instead of streaming them.

Stop updates and photo backup

Set app updates and cloud photo backup to Wi-Fi only so they don't run in the background.

Lower the video quality

Most streaming and social apps have a data saver setting. Turn it on while you travel.

Check what you've used

Your phone's mobile data settings show how much each app has used, so you can spot the heavy ones.

Questions about data

What happens if I run out of data?

You can top up again from abroad without changing eSIM.

Do WhatsApp and FaceTime calls use my data?

Yes. Calls and video calls through apps use data. Video calls use the most: about 250 MB for 30 minutes.

Do apps use data when I'm not using them?

Some do. Set app updates and photo backup to Wi-Fi only so they don't use your plan in the background.

Should I buy a bigger plan just in case?

The calculator picks the smallest plan that covers your trip. Tick everything you'll really do, especially streaming and video calls. If two plans cost the same, it picks the one with more data.

When do my days start counting?

When you land. Install the eSIM before you fly and it switches on when you arrive.

Will I keep my own number?

Yes. The eSIM adds data next to your normal line. Your calls, texts and WhatsApp stay exactly as they are.
